The NPhA Foundation

History and Legacy

The National Pharmaceutical Association Foundation (NPhAF) was founded in 2000 during the 53rd Annual Conference of the National Pharmaceutical Association held in Baltimore, Maryland. Established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Foundation was created to serve as the philanthropic heart of the National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA), ensuring the long-term sustainability of the organization and both its service to the community and the profession of pharmacy.

Our Purpose

Mission

The mission of the National Pharmaceutical Association Foundation is to support the activities of the National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA), including education programs, research projects, and innovative pharmacy practices. Furthermore, the NPhAF provides scholarships to minority and underserved students who are members of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA).

Vision

Our vision is to provide leadership to the NPhA and its affiliated organizations to create change and advance the profession. We seek funds aggressively to support educational opportunities, practice innovations, and research projects in disease states that disproportionately affect minority and disadvantaged patients.

Terrence Burroughs, MBA, CMTM, RPh, FNPhA

NPhAF Chair

The Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of a leading pharmaceutical services firm with a distinguished record of supporting Fortune 500 organizations. He brings extensive experience in healthcare leadership, having previously served as a Director of Pharmacy within major health systems and federally qualified health centers. Mr. Burroughs earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Eshelman School of Pharmacy and his Master of Business Administration from the Babcock Graduate School of Management at Wake Forest University.
Jermaine Smith

Jermaine Smith, RPh

NPhAF Treasurer

Jermaine Smith, RPh, is Vice President of State Advocacy at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS), where he leads state policy strategy to advance pharmacy practice, patient access, and evolving care delivery models nationwide. With more than 30 years of leadership experience in government affairs, regulatory strategy, and operations, he is recognized for aligning business objectives with legislative and regulatory priorities.

Previously, Jermaine served as Vice President of Government & Regulatory Affairs at Rite Aid, overseeing policy advocacy and regulatory compliance across more than 1,300 pharmacies and representing the company on federal and state boards and advisory councils. He is committed to developing future pharmacy leaders through mentorship partnerships with universities and professional associations that promote diversity and leadership development.

Jermaine earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of South Carolina and is a licensed pharmacist and immunizer. He lives in Bowie, Maryland, with his wife and two children.

Dr. Bengy Mitchell is a dedicated pharmacy professional with extensive experience across various roles within community pharmacy. Throughout their career, they have consistently championed workforce and student body diversity in colleges of pharmacy to ensure the profession accurately reflects the communities it serves. Their primary objective is to advocate for underrepresented professionals and enhance the quality of care provided to underserved populations.
Kendra Roundtree, PharmD, MBA, MS

Kendra Roundtree, PharmD, MBA, MS

NPhAF Executive Director

Kendra is a dynamic healthcare leader who blends clinical expertise with strategic business acumen to advance health equity and drive industry transformation. She holds a Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Business Administration from Mercer University, along with a Master of Science in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics from the University of Maryland.


With a career spanning frontline care and executive advocacy, Dr. Roundtree leverages her pharmacy and business background to deliver consultative sales strategies, stakeholder engagement, and motivational messaging that inspires action. As a Cardiometabolic Care Specialist with Novo Nordisk and Executive Director of the National Pharmaceutical Association Foundation, she leads with intention—amplifying voices and outcomes across healthcare.


Her passion for whole-person wellness and community empowerment is reflected in her commitment to education, access, and equity. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Tamara Mccants

Tamara Mccants

Trustee, NPhA President

Tamara McCants, PharmD, is a nationally recognized advocate for health equity and a champion for expanding the role of pharmacists in improving outcomes for underserved communities. She currently serves as President of the National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA), a national organization committed to advancing Black and other underrepresented pharmacy professionals and addressing disparities in healthcare.

Raised in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. McCants earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Florida A&M University. She is a Medical Science Liaison with Abbott Diabetes Care and brings nearly 25 years of experience across diverse pharmacy practice settings, including managed care, ambulatory care, operations and management, and academia. Throughout her career, she has led and executed millions of dollars in grant-funded initiatives focused on reducing disparities in HIV/AIDS, diabetes, immunizations, and mental health.

A respected leader within the profession, Dr. McCants has held numerous leadership roles, including Chair of the District of Columbia Board of Pharmacy, and in 2008 received the prestigious Bowl of Hygeia Award, one of pharmacy’s highest honors. She currently serves on the boards of Community Education Group (President) and Homes for Hope, remains actively engaged with the FAMU Alumni Association, and is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Rho Mu Omega Chapter. Dr. McCants is the devoted mother of two sons, whom she raises with her life partner.

Dr. Robbie Christian received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Miami VA Healthcare System in Miami, Florida and her PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency at the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System in Cleveland, Ohio (VANEOHS). She currently serves as the PGY2 ID Residency Program Director, ID Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, and SNPhA Executive Director.
Pat Achoe

Pat Achoe, RPh, MBA, RPh

Trustee

Patricia Achoe is a Cincinnati-based diversity and wellness leader with more than three decades of experience in pharmacy, education, and organizational leadership. She coordinates over 100 Associate Resource Groups (ARGs), supporting organizational goals related to equity, inclusion, and diversity.

Pat also holds a shared position through a collaboration with the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy, where she coordinates a Pharmacy Technician program for high school students and oversees wellness initiatives for faculty, staff, and students. She began her career with Kroger in 1990 as a Pharmacy Manager and has held several leadership roles, including Pharmacy Coordinator and Pharmacy Category Manager.

Pat holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Howard University and an MBA from Grand Canyon University. She is a Certified Diversity Practitioner and holds a Six Sigma Green Belt certification and a Worksite Wellness Certificate.

Her contributions have been recognized through multiple honors, including the University Staff Excellence Award (2023), Progressive Grocer’s Top Women in Grocery recognition (2021), and the Cincinnati Business Courier Second Act Award (2019).
A native of Detroit, Pat serves on the boards of the NPhA Foundation and The Health Collaborative and is a lifetime member of the National Pharmaceutical Association. She enjoys reading, meeting people, and traveling with her husband, Howard.

Wallene Bullard

Wallene Bullard-Battle, PharmD, BCPS, CHTS-CP

Trustee

Dr. Wallene Bullard is a board-certified pharmacist, author, and healthcare leader with more than two decades of experience advancing health equity, expanding access to care, and improving outcomes for underserved populations. She currently serves as Director of Pharmacy Services at Conduent State Healthcare, where she leads pharmacy benefit management operations for Maryland Medicaid and other state programs, collaborating with population health leaders to improve medication access and quality of care for vulnerable communities.

Dr. Bullard is an international healthcare consultant and co-founder of a minority- and woman-owned healthcare and professional management firm, and she is the co-founder of the Minority Pharmacist Entrepreneur Collaborative (MPECrx), a national platform launched in 2020 to empower minority pharmacists and pharmacy students to build sustainable businesses and generational wealth beyond traditional practice. Through MPECrx and strategic partnerships, she has helped more than 500 colleagues explore entrepreneurial pathways and pharmacy ownership. An adjunct faculty member at Howard University College of Pharmacy, Dr. Bullard is a recognized mentor, speaker, and advocate for professional development, and has served on national advisory panels for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the National Quality Forum, and the Pharmacy Quality Alliance. Her honors include the APhA Foundation Bowl of Hygeia Award and the Howard University College of Pharmacy Distinguished Alumnus Legacy Award.

Alftan Dyson

Alftan Dyson, PharmD, AAHIVP, FNPhA

Trustee

Head, Strategic Medical Partnerships at ViiV Healthcare, is responsible for leading and managing ViiV’s strategic alliances and partnerships with health professional associations, medical institutions, and other key stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem. In this role, she drives collaboration, innovation, and the development of new therapeutic solutions. Alftan has also served as the Director of Pharmacy Services with Medical Advocacy and Outreach (formerly Medical AIDS Outreach of Alabama) located in Montgomery, AL. Dr. Dyson completed her Doctor of Pharmacy in 2013 from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and completed a community pharmacy residency with the University of Missouri- Kansas City College of Pharmacy in 2014. Dr. Dyson is a proud life member of the National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA) and newly appointed NPhA Foundation Board Member. She also serves as the Chair of the American Academy of HIV Medicine’s Council on Racial Equity.

Trustee

The son of one of the incorporators of the National Pharmaceutical Association who is a pharmacist, pastor, educator, and author. He has been a leader in the profession on a local, regional, and national level beginning as a student and had received numerous awards for his work. He has served on the boards of numerous organizations and foundations. Many times, being the first to serve in leadership roles.
